GLOBAL STORMING

Let's get off the Global Warming band-wagon, if only because there is NO EVIDENCE of such a thing.

However, let's stick to the facts, and admit that there seems to be enhanced storminess of record proportions in many parts of the world. I propose we hypothesize that there is at least some evidence of unusual levels of record-setting storms, aka the winter storm in China this year, the specific type/location of the Burma Cyclone (Nargis), and the record-setting number of killer tornadoes this year.

The problem isn't Global Warming, but it may be Global Storming. Let's start printing the t-shirts now!

So, are you speaking from your vast scientific knowledge that there is no such thing as global warming. There is compelling evidence that what we have is cyclical climate change with a component of global warming superimposed on it. I think there is no doubt that humans have had an impact on the climate, no matter what you call it - geekygirl

So, who is catka99? Is he / she a visitor to our fine site, or one of the weathergeeks and or a Wx Babe in disguise???

Can we put in a ruleset that forces female posters to send in a picture (or I suppose, a guy for geekygirl's benefit). Don't forget that the point of this site is to not only have productive conversation about meteorology, but also to find other weather weather babes / studs out there.

With that said, I concur with catka99 when he / she states that humans have had an impact on the climate. However, I don't think there is enough data / scientific evidence to prove (although I can't say that I've gone looking) there is such a thing called global warming.

I also think this "green" thing has been blown way out of proportion as a marketing scheme for the big box stores like Wal-Mart and Home Depot to turn a dime by playing on the innocent. Can we all do something to "reduce our carbon footprint", live healthier lives, and leave a more viable planet for future generations? YES SIR. However, those same people who are claiming that the effects of long-term climate change (i.e. global warming) are speeding the human race towards extinction, are the same people who are leading John Q. Public into believing that if they buy all their green crap, global warming will disappear. You can't have your cake and eat it to. Is "global warming" a long-term effect of the human race's influence on the planet, or can it be quickly changed by buying green products?

We are here but for a short time, and the short time that we've been here cannot be an indication of longer term trends in the climate. The people that irk me the most, especially weather professionals, are the ones that say storm X, or the extreme heat in the South, or the flooding in Iowa, or the drought in the Southwest is a singular event being caused by global warming. Poppycock. Single events are no more a sign of climate change than me trying on a pair of women's underwear once, then being labelled a cross dresser for the rest of my life. Ooops, did I say that out loud? But you get the idea. What is the "official" length of time to determine climate change??? Correct, there isn't one. However, I personally believe it is more than 1 generation.

Is anyone else disturbed by K-Free's analogy? Cross dressing and Global warming may be related but I have no idea how they are related.

Just no pictures... please...

Ahhhh, I go by many names but suffice to say that I am obsessed with weather geeks, especially those who wear suspenders and bow ties..... I still think a serious forum - by the pool of geekygirl is in order. Video coverage and skype participation by Hot Lava could be posted to the website!
