"IKE"s Windfield BIGGER than "K"

Ike's wind field is now larger than that of Katrina, the storm that devastated New Orleans in 2005, said Jeff Masters, the director of meteorology at private forecaster Weather Underground Inc.
``The total amount of energy is more powerful than Katrina, so we could be seeing a storm surge that could rival Katrina,'' Masters said. The storm is so large ``the location doesn't matter much; it is going to inundate a huge part of the Texas coast.''

We are getting blown around here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The winds are really howling - and the storm surge is already up to part of Highway 603. The NOAA Tide Gauge in the Bay shows the low tide running 6 ft above normal. Going to be a long night as the tides start to rise.

One more thing - if you watch high res satellite imagery, Ike has moved due west over the last few hours - not northwest or west northwest.

And for KlingFree - it have just moved past 90W - so you can relax...
